Megan & Chad’s October wedding in Crete: villa living, family time and dancing in the rain

When couples imagine a wedding in Crete in October, they often picture warm light, a calm sea, long dinners outdoors and a more relaxed atmosphere than in the peak summer months. Megan and Chad’s celebration had all of that - and more. Their wedding was not only beautiful in style, it was also deeply meaningful in the way it brought people together. From the very beginning, they knew they wanted a place where they could both stay with their families and celebrate in the same setting. That is why they chose a sea-view villa in Crete.

For many couples, villa weddings are about much more than aesthetics. They are often chosen by people who do not get to spend much time with their loved ones in everyday life and want their wedding days to feel like real shared time. Staying together under one roof creates something special: slower mornings, spontaneous conversations, coffee with family, late-night gatherings, and the feeling that everyone is truly part of the experience.

Villa wedding ceremony

Choosing a villa where everyone can stay and celebrate in one place changes the feeling of the wedding completely. It creates intimacy, ease, and that rare feeling that, for a few days, everyone is living the celebration together. If you are thinking about how to choose a wedding villa or wedding venue in Crete, we have written more about it in our blog.

Why a wedding in Crete in October makes so much sense

Like many of our couples, Megan and Chad came to Crete for a site visit about a year before the wedding. We always suggest that before signing a contract with a planner, couples come to Crete and visit venues with us. We want to be sure that you have found the right place and that you truly want to work with us. Only then do we move forward together. Besides visit in advance helps for many reasons.

First, you understand what the island really feels like at that time of year. If you are planning a wedding in Greece in October, this matters a lot. You experience the air, the light, the roads, the distances, the rhythm of the place, and the practical reality behind the dream.

Second, visiting about a year in advance gives you enough time for a calmer and more thoughtful planning process. You stop imagining the island from photos and start planning with real understanding.

October kiss

October is one of the loveliest times for a wedding in Crete. The sea is still warm, the island is quieter, and the light becomes softer and more flattering than in the height of summer. For couples who want warmth without the intensity of July and August, a wedding in Crete in October can be ideal. The days are a little shorter, but the atmosphere is often gentler, slower and more comfortable for everyone involved.

An intimate three-day celebration in Crete

Megan and Chad wanted to invite no more than 30 guests - only their closest family and friends. They were very clear that they did not want a huge event. So instead of focusing everything into one single day, they created a three-day experience for their guests:

  • Day 1: a sunset catamaran cruise

  • Day 2: dinner at one of the most scenic restaurants in Chania

  • Day 3: the wedding day at the villa

This kind of structure works especially well for a destination wedding in Greece, when the pace of the island still allows for sea activities, outdoor dinners and meaningful time together without the exhaustion that can come with peak-season heat. And Megan and Chad were also the kind of couple who cared deeply about atmosphere. Not only how things looked for the content (Megan is a tiktok blogger), but how everyone would feel.

Content, style and a couple with a clear vision

Megan is building her career on TikTok, so content is naturally very important to her. She invited a well-known content creator for all three days, and we honestly cannot imagine how many reels came out of this wedding in the end.

Bold colors

But what we appreciated most was not just Megan’s attention to visuals. She had a clear vision, yes, but she also understood the mood she wanted to create. She knew what kind of decor & colors she loved, what kind of energy she wanted around her, and what details mattered emotionally. That made working with her very easy - Megan was the real driver of the wedding design, but in the best way. She brought direction without creating heaviness.

The morning of the wedding

The wedding day began smoothly. Megan was getting ready with her mother and sister in a spacious bedroom with a beautiful sea view. The room was filled with soft light, calm energy and that delicious kind of anticipation that belongs only to wedding mornings.

Bridal morning routine

At the same time, the decor team was building the floral structure directly on site - something that is still relatively rare in Crete, and something we were especially grateful for. Chad, meanwhile, was having coffee with his friends.

These are the small things that often stay in memory: the quiet of the morning, the smell of sea air, the first coffee, the feeling that something important is about to begin. Megan had fun with the makeup artist Evie, had cold Prosecco and observed the villa’s ground becoming a place of the ceremony.

Chad was getting ready in the villa next to the wedding villa. He confessed that he is happy every time he feels how excited and raving his fiancée is.

Weather in Crete in October: what happened on the wedding day

Usually, weather in Crete in October still feels very close to summer. On Megan and Chad’s wedding day, the forecast showed a chance of light rain earlier in the day, so we prepared with that in mind during setup. However, the evening forecast remained positive, and based on the conditions we had, we decided not to activate a full Plan B.

We only take that step when it is truly necessary, because our goal is always to keep the couple as close as possible to the celebration we originally designed together. And for most of the day, everything felt aligned.

Guests take their seats before the ceremony

The ceremony went beautiful. It was held by the close family member and he did it great. There wasn't a dry eye.

Megan also wanted to honor her Indian heritage, and she decided that dinner would be the right moment to do so. She and Chad changed into Indian outfits made of luxurious silks, and the atmosphere shifted into something even more textured, elegant and personal. The silk moved beautifully in the air, and it gave the whole evening another emotional layer.

For the couple, good food and drinks were also essential. This is one of the reasons why we love working with Salis. When couples want quality, generosity and a sense of ease around the table, we know Salis can deliver beautifully.

Then, just as dinner finished - thank you, Zeus - the rain arrived.

At first it was just enough to catch our attention. But we chose not to wait and see whether it would become a problem. We moved quickly. The bar and DJ were transferred under the covered terrace of the villa. The bartenders set themselves up behind the kitchen counter and continued serving excellent cocktails from there.

Outside, the rain became heavier, and we could see circles spreading across the surface of the pool.

When rain becomes part of the magic

This is the moment many couples fear. But what happened next is exactly why we always say: do not let the weather define your wedding day. Instead of becoming upset or disappointed, Megan and Chad — together with their guests — made the most beautiful choice possible. They chose joy. They danced in the warm rain like children. Barefoot, laughing, fully alive in the moment.

The rain did not ruin the evening. In a strange way, it revealed its true spirit. It showed that this was not a wedding built only on visuals, but on warmth, trust and the ability to stay joyful inside the unexpected. This is something we think many couples need to hear when planning a wedding in Crete in October or, in fact, any wedding anywhere in the world. The most magical celebrations are rarely the most rigid ones. They are the ones with a strong vision, yes, but also enough openness to let life happen. Clouds can soften the light. Wind can bring movement. Rain can create intimacy. Sometimes what seems like a problem at first becomes the part everyone remembers most.

Maybe that is what we remember most from Megan and Chad’s wedding. Not only the villa, the view, the silk, the styling or even the rain. But the way everyone chose joy when the evening changed its plans.

In the end, that is what stays with us most deeply: being together, feeling warm, loved, well looked after, and fully alive in the moment. And that, truly, is the most precious thing there is.
