Athene & Dean: A Dreamy Beach Wedding in Crete
As a destination wedding planner in Crete, I have the joy of crafting unforgettable weddings for couples from all over the world, each bringing their unique backgrounds and traditions. Crete offers a stunning diversity of natural settings, from majestic mountain weddings to enchanting olive groves, picturesque wineries, and, of course, breathtaking seaside celebrations. I genuinely love my job, and each wedding feels like a unique journey and a beautiful story waiting to unfold.
Athene and Dean’s Story
Athene and Dean, a beautiful couple from Scotland, envisioned a luxury beach wedding that perfectly mirrored their passions. As a cold water free diver, Athene’s love for the sea made a beachside celebration a must. Their other love? The delectable Cretan cuisine and the island’s appealing weather. Crete’s climate offers something for everyone: slightly mild and fresh at the start of the wedding season (April, May), sizzling summer days in June, July, August, and September, and the wonderfully comfortable autumn temperatures of October and November. (A quick note to couples: many venues close by the end of October, so always check with your wedding planner!)
Athene and Dean began their search for the perfect venue a year before their big day. Despite Crete being an island surrounded by water, finding the ideal beach venue wasn’t that easy due to many prime spots being occupied by hotels or beach bars not being exactly best fit from their appearances to suit a wedding. But challenges are what make wedding planning exciting! We persevered until we found the perfect location that matched their vision—Bamboo Beach Bar.
The Perfect VenueThe date was set for the 18th of September, coinciding with the last working day of the beach bar before it closed for the season (the beach bars close earlier). This meant one thing: an epic celebration that could stretch into the night.
Bamboo Beach Bar offered the perfect setting for all the stages of their wedding: a heartfelt ceremony, a sumptuous dinner, refreshing drinks, an exhilarating fire show, and barefoot dancing under the stars. It was a luxurious and stylish affair filled with life and love—just the way we love it.
