Don’t let the weather steal your wedding day

When you’ve been planning your wedding in Crete for a year or more, it’s only natural to dream of perfection. Golden sunsets over the sea, a calm Aegean breeze, soft flattering light, every moment unfolding exactly as you imagined.

And then the sun hides behind clouds. The wind rises to a strong 5 Beaufort. A Sahara breeze brings heat and dust.
Or simply, rain. If we could design the weather for you, we would always choose 24°C, a gentle sea breeze, and light that makes everything glow. But we, planners, we are just humans and we can’t control it. But we can guide your day through it with care and experience, of course. Because the truth is that it’s not a weather that does ruin weddings. Stress and rigid expectations do.

A real story from Crete

Megan and Chad came all the way from California. They visited Crete in October 2024 to make plans for their wedding in October 2025. On the wedding day the forecast looked clear, everything was set for a perfect evening.

We have seen clouds around, but we hoped they will pass away. Luckily the rain arrived right after a dinner came to an end. Enough to shift the mood and require quick action. Within minutes, we moved the celebration to the villa. Thanks to our decor team and a dedicated DJ and a bartender the entire setup was carefully reinstalled under the villa’s pergola, music included, without interrupting the flow of the evening.

And then something beautiful happened. Megan and Chad, together with their guests, started dancing in the rain. Freely, joyfully, like children. Shoes off, laughter everywhere, no hesitation. They simply choose to enjoy this evening anyways. And basically they had everything to get this. We are 100% sure, it became one of those moments no one could have planned, and no one will ever forget.

Practical ways to be ready for any weather

Over the years, we’ve learned that a well-prepared wedding feels effortless, even when conditions change.

Have a Plan B you truly love:
Not just a backup, but a space you feel good in. Covered terraces, villas, pergolas, or indoor areas that still match your aesthetic.

Think about wind, not only rain:
In Greece, wind is often more challenging than rain. Secure florals, choose stable structures, and avoid overly delicate setups.

Choose the right timing:
Tents and sun umbrellas for the early ceremonies. Later dinners allow you to move past the peak heat in summer.

Work with materials that adapt:
Heavier linens, stable décor, and flexible lighting create a seamless transition between different conditions.

Prepare your guests:
Welcome notes, gentle dress code guidance, or small details like fans, shawls, or sunscreen help everyone feel at ease.

Trust your team on the day:
Fast, confident decisions make all the difference. Letting go allows you to stay present.

A different way to look at it : Some of the most magical weddings happen when something unexpected appears. Clouds create softer, more romantic light. Wind adds movement and energy.
Rain brings intimacy, closeness, and unforgettable emotion. Perfection is not always what you planned. Often, it’s what you allowed to happen.

Why having the right planner matters

This is exactly where an experienced wedding planner becomes essential. Someone who knows how the day will realistically unfold, who is local and understands local conditions, venues, and how quickly things can change.
A planner can give you a clear opinion in the moment and guide you without hesitation.

We understand your worries. We share the responsibility for you and for every guest who traveled so far to celebrate your love. If the weather turns out differently than you imagined, embrace what the day brings. We truly believe it is always possible.
