Ana and Rares: Church Wedding in Crete.

There are so many reasons why we love sharing wedding stories of our couples. Through their journeys, you can explore different wedding locations and get a clearer vision of what might suit your dream day—whether it’s a beach, the mountains, a winery, or something else entirely. You’ll find inspiration for setups, decorations, and ceremonies, along with useful information to help answer the questions you might be asking yourself.

Ana Maria & Rares

dreamt of a church wedding. A quick note here: anyone of Orthodox, Christian, or Catholic faith can wed in a Greek church. The list of documents required for a church wedding can vary, as each priest may request a different set of documents. It’s worth mentioning that Greek church weddings are conducted in Greek. However, we provide programs that include step-by-step guidance and translations of the key parts of the ceremony, ensuring everyone knows what’s happening.

It’s also important to understand that the Orthodox Church in Greece holds a lot of power, meaning that if you opt for a church wedding, we must follow their rules and traditions exactly as prescribed. Unfortunately, this means no changes can be made to the ceremony.

Ana and Rares traveled to Crete three times in search of the perfect venue. After all, you want to feel the place to know it’s the one. Their final choice was a stunning Karavitakis Winery.

Karavitakis Winery is a stunning location in Chania region of Crete that offers its own church—a huge advantage, as there’s no need to travel to another venue after the ceremony. The space is beautifully divided: the upper level features the entrance and church with plenty of room for welcoming drinks, while the lower level boasts a dance floor and a gorgeous garden area for dinner setups.

As dreamy as it sounds, it’s important to note that the winery isn’t a dedicated wedding venue. It’s a working winery, and its availability for weddings is limited to May and June. Additionally, since it’s not a traditional wedding venue, all setup elements must be arranged through external vendors. We always remind our couples to start securing vendors a year in advance, as Crete is a highly sought-after wedding destination.

A special insight to Ana Maria’s and Rares’s love story. Both come from the same little town in Romania, with strikingly similar surnames (we even needed confirmation that they are not related). Despite these coincidences, it was in London where they found each other. Isn’t that romantic? Love truly has a way of finding us.

It was truly a special day, we are as always so happy to be able to witness and be part of such sacred moments of each couple, sharing their day of love. We have also made a special connection with Ana and Rares while we were planning and visualising, putting all pieces together. Thank you for trusting us as always.
