Before we open with this story —filled with reflections, inspiration, and guidance for your wedding planning journey—we want to pause and share something from the heart.
Love is real, love is beautiful.
Weddings are a true reflection of that love. Every time we go through photos preparing for our blog or social media posts, we’re transported back to those moments overflowing with emotions. It’s all there in the details: the joy, the connection, the celebration of two people coming together.Being part of this process is an honour we cherish deeply.
Dema & Jacob
Dema and Jacob wanted their wedding to be a true celebration—a holiday and a party rolled into one—held at the villa where they were staying.
As a wedding planner with 15 years of experience (and pulling off events in unexpected places), I believe anything is possible with the right preparation. But if your heart is set for a particular villa for your special celebration, the first step is crucial: to ensure the property owners approve hosting an event on their premises.
Next, task is to assess the practicalities. First, If the space large enough for the number of guests in mind. This wedding began with 60 guests but doubled during planning—thankfully, the villa had room to accommodate. Other, we check for potential restrictions on noise, parking, or other issues that might arise in private residences.
Also what is important to keep in mind that villas aren’t designed for large-scale events. Unlike wedding venues with built-in resources, private villas require hiring external vendors for every detail. This means careful advance planning to secure everything from catering to décor to lighting. Crete’s popularity as a wedding destination has grown so much in recent years that top vendors book out quickly, so it’s vital to start your planning a year before.
And another advice: invest in a wedding planner. We see that a lot of couples try to do it themselves first but realising half way through that it’s really difficult, stressful, time consuming plus cultural differences in business handling at this end, end up searching for a wedding planner that might be already booked for the preferred day along with the desired vendors.
For Dema and Jacob’s wedding, we transformed their holiday villa into a luxury venue, complete with lights, catering, bar, cake, DJ, welcome drinks, violinist, midnight snacks, transfers, flowers, décor, photographers, hair and makeup, and more. Every detail was thoughtfully curated and executed, ensuring the couple could enjoy their day completely stress free as always, this is our job.
Another reason Crete is such a popular destination for weddings is its ideal geographic location, making it accessible for guests from all over the world. In Dema and Jacob’s case, their beautiful mix of cultures brought loved ones from every corner—from New Zealand to the USA—creating a truly global celebration.
We absolutely loved the diversity of the crowd—the vibrant, colourful gowns worn by the ladies, the contagious energy, and the pure drive to celebrate. There was so much dancing, laughter, and joy; it was truly a celebration to remember.
Dema and Jacob had a wedding celebration without a ceremony, starting with guest arrival and welcoming drinks accompanied by violinist, couple pictures, their entrance and dancing, more group photos, couple photos, cake cutting, first dance, dinner, speeches and more dancing. A day filled with pure celebration, gathering all together at one spot on the island of Crete, uniting in love and happiness.
We are grateful to Dema and Jacob for their trust.
Love,
Team Crete within Weddings.
P.S. To our future happy couples, we are looking forward assisting you on your wedding journey in Crete.
